All the major stats and facts from match 22 between India and Pakistan in Old Trafford.
India beat Pakistan by 89 runs (DLS method) at Old Trafford in Manchester and registered their third win of this World Cup.
Earlier Pakistan won the toss and opted to field first but their bowlers couldn't take the advantage of overcast conditions and Indian openers Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul continued to punish them and brought up team's hundred. Both the batsmen also brought up their respective fifties. Wahab Riaz broke this 136 runs opening stand by removing KL Rahul for 57 runs. Virat Kohli joined Rohit Sharma and both the batsmen kept scoring runs without any trouble.
Rohit Sharma brought up his 100 off just 85 balls and went on to score 140 runs off 113 balls. Hardik Pandya also scored 26 runs before getting out to Amir. MS Dhoni also perished off for just 1 run. Virat Kohli changed his gears and smashed all bowlers and brought up his fifty. Kohli played 77 runs knock and had put India in a strong position before getting out off Amir bowling. India finished on 336/5 in 50 overs.
In reply, Pakistan had a slow and poor start and lost Imam ul Haq for just 7 runs. Fakhar Zaman and Babar Azam rebuilt the innings but they couldn't score runs at a quick rate and it was creating a lot of pressure on them. Kuldeep Yadav broke this 104 runs stand by dismissing Babar Azam for 48 runs. In the next over he sent Fakhar Zaman back to pavilion and put Pakistan in deep trouble and after two set batsmen's dismissal Pakistan lost the track and Mohammad Hafeez, Shoaib Malik, and Sarfraz Ahmed all got out cheaply.
Due to rain, the match was reduced to 40 overs and Pakistan could manage only 212 runs for the loss of 6 wickets and lost the match by 89 runs. Rohit Sharma was named Man of the Match.
