Kohli made 77 and passed the 11000-run milestone in ODI cricket.
India had brought in Vijay Shankar for Shikhar Dhawan and KL Rahul opened the innings with Rohit Sharma for the first time in ODI cricket. The new opening combination added 136 runs in 24 overs, with Rahul falling for 57 runs. Rohit went onto make 140 marvelous runs, his second century in this World Cup and 24th overall. He also added 98 runs with Virat Kohli, who himself made 77 runs.
With just over 3 overs left in the Indian innings, rain interrupted the match, halting it was quite some time. As soon as the covers were taken off, the innings resumed and Kohli and Shankar took charge. However, he was soon dismissed by Amir in 48th over. Amir bowled a bouncer to Kohli, who tried to hook it and was caught behind. Sarfaraz and Amir both appealed, but Kohli himself walked back to the pavilion.
However, when the replays were shown with ultra-edge being used, it showed that the ball hadn’t touched Kohli’s bat at all. Then in the dressing room, Kohli and Dhoni saw the replays and were seen checking the handle of the bat for creaks and noises.
