Long-time injured pacer Hamid Hassan has also made a comeback.
Since being sacked from captaincy duties across all formats last month, Asghar Afghan's place in Afghanistan's squad for the upcoming ICC Cricket World Cup was in doubt, but on Monday (April 22) the veteran right-hand batsman received an official nod from national selectors for the all-important ODI tournament, beginning May 30.
Apart from Asghar's inclusion, the other major development from Afghanistan's 15-man World Cup squad is the return of pacer Hamid Hassan, who last played at the highest level for his nation in 2017 and had been fighting a very long painful battle with injuries.
"Luckily for us, the comeback of senior fast bowler Hamid Hassan is a good news. However, we will take into account his form and fitness during upcoming practice matches," said chief selector Dawlat Khan Ahmadzai.
Hassan and Asghar are both parts of the side that will be led by Gulbadin Naib. The squad also features the likes of Mohammad Nabi, Rashid Khan, Mohammad Shahzad and Samiullah Shinwari.
Afghanistan will begin its World Cup campaign on June 1 in Bristol versus defending champions Australia, before which of course the rising Asian giants play two official warm-up games against Pakistan and hosts England on May 24 and 27 respectively.
