Rohit played a match-winning knock of 76 in the final of the Champions Trophy 2025.
Chasing 252 to win, the Men in Blue rode on skipper Rohit Sharma’s 76 and crucial contributions from Shreyas Iyer (48) and KL Rahul (34*) to get over the finishing line with an over to spare.
After the triumph, Rohit attended a press conference, where he addressed the inevitable question regarding his future in international cricket.
The Indian captain, in his inimitable style, confirmed that he is not retiring from the 50-over format of the game.
"Koi future plan hai nahi, jo chal raha hai chalega (no future plan, whatever is happening will continue). I am not going to retire from this format," Rohit told reporters.
Reflecting on his approach to batting, Rohit said: "I scored heavily in the 2019 World Cup but maza nahi aaya… team didn’t win. When the team wins, and you make a contribution, it gives satisfaction. I am clear in my mind how I want to bat, and that is what I am trying to do."
India remained unbeaten throughout the Champions Trophy. This marks Rohit's second ICC trophy as captain, following India's T20 World Cup 2024 triumph, where they edged past South Africa in a thrilling final at Barbados.
After the T20 World Cup win last year, Rohit Sharma had announced his retirement from the shortest format for India. It remains to be seen if he gets picked in India’s squad for the Test tour of England in June.
