India captain Rohit Sharma gave a hilarious response to a journalist’s question about his equation with Ajinkya Rahane and Cheteshwar Pujara. This came after Rohit was speaking about R Ashwin, who announced his retirement from international cricket after the 3rd BGT 2024 Test in Brisbane.

After Ashwin bid adieu to the sport, a journalist asked Rohit how he felt about not having senior players like Ajinkya Rahane, Cheteshwar Pujara, and the senior offie in the national squad anymore.

Rohit stated that he is still in touch with Rahane, who is also from Bombay, but rarely gets to meet Pujara.  He hoped to stay in touch with Ashwin, joking that the experienced bowler would most likely join the broadcasting team as an expert in a few years.

We will always remain friends. Yes, we won't be seeing each other on the tour, but we will definitely be meeting each other. Ajinkya is from Bombay, and we meet often. Pujara is hiding somewhere in Rajkot, so we don't meet so often. But Ashwin might join you in a few years, so we will keep meeting him," he said in the press conference.

However, midway through his comment, he realized the question and not ignoring the fact that the two can still make a comeback in the longest format, Rohit's witty response had everyone laughing their hearts out in the media room.

"By the way, Ajinkya Rahane has not retired. You will get me in trouble. (Aap mereko marwaoge yaar). You are saying as if all three have retired. Pujara also hasn't even retired yet. You named all three, that is why I am clarifying. Pujara and Rahane are not here at the moment but I don't know about the future. They can come back. So, only Ash won't be there because he has officially announced his retirement," Rohit said.

Meanwhile, Ashwin ends his international career with 537 wickets in his 106 Tests at an average of 24.00, leaving him seventh on the all-time list and second only to Anil Kumble (619) for India. He also played 116 one-day and 65 Twenty20 internationals.
