Pant pushed Unadkat to move to the center and lift the trophy.
Player of the Match R Ashwin led with both the ball and the bat, first taking 6 wickets in the match and then scoring a match-winning 42* on day 4 of the Test, adding 71* runs for the 8th wicket with Shreyas Iyer (29*) as India came back from 74/7 to chase down 145 runs.
Bangladesh came very close to their first-ever Test win over India in 13 attempts, but despite Mehidy Hasan’s five wickets, it was not to be as India clawed their way back into the game and won it in the end.
This match was also special for Jaydev Unadkat, who made his Test comeback after 12 years, having made his debut for India in 2010 against South Africa. He picked up three wickets in the match and contributed with the bat as well.
After India won the series and the trophy was handed to captain KL Rahul, he gave the trophy to newbies Saurabh Kumar and Abhimanyu Easwaran, who lifted the cup for the photo-ops.
But Rishabh Pant then forced Jaydev Unadkat, who was standing at the extreme right to go to the middle and lift the trophy as well in what was a heartwarming gesture towards the pacer, who had worked hard in domestic cricket to get a call back into the Indian team after more than a decade.
Here is the video of Pant’s gesture towards Unadkat:
