Ashwin hit 42* as India won the Test by 3 wickets and the series 2-0.
Bangladesh already had their tail up after they finished day 3 on a high reducing India to 45/4 in the chase of 145 runs. They started well on day four, removing Jaydev Unadkat for 13 and then the dangerous Rishabh Pant for 9 runs.
Akshar Patel contributed a valuable 34 runs before Mehidy Hasan bowled him to take his five wickets in the innings. But then Shreyas Iyer and R Ashwin got together at 74/7 and began chipping away at the total little by little.
When the Indian score crossed 100, some runs came in a flurry with the end coming in one over from Mehidy, when Ashwin hit him for a six and two consecutive fours.
After hitting the winning shot, R Ashwin celebrated with gusto fist pumping in the air and jumping to celebrate a much hard-fought win.
A video shared on social media also showed his celebration and the relief in the dressing room after India won as stand-in captain KL Rahul and coach Rahul Dravid hugged each other.
