Bangladesh ended day 2 on 133/8, trailing by 271 runs.
India resumed the day on 278/6 and lost Shreyas Iyer early for 86 well-made runs. Then R Ashwin (58) hit his 13th Test fifty and added 92 valuable runs for the 8th wicket with Kuldeep Yadav, who made his Test-best score of 40 runs.
In the end, India was bowled out for 404 runs with Mehidy Hasan and Taijul Islam taking four wickets apiece.
In reply, Mohammed Siraj started the innings perfectly by having Najmul Hossain Shanto caught behind on the first ball of the innings, and then Umesh Yadav bowled Yasir Ali. Zakir Hasan (20) and Litton Das (24) took Bangladesh to tea without further damage.
But after that, Siraj removed Litton shortly after the tea and then Kuldeep Yadav ran through the Bangladeshi middle order with figures of 4/33, which included important wickets of Shakib Al Hasan (3) and Mushfiqur Rahim (28).
Gill was immediately surrounded by Indian players including Virat Kohli, who in his excitement came quite close to Gill’s face and almost kissed him.
