Ishan Kishan hit the fastest double ton in ODIs and is the youngest to reach the milestone.
Kishan hammered 24 fours and 10 sixes in his knock after India was put into bat by Bangladesh captain Litton Das, who won the toss and chose to field first. Kishan, opening the innings in place of injured Rohit Sharma, spared no bowler whether pace or spin, as he got to his maiden century in just 86 balls. He took a further 18 balls to reach 150 runs, the fastest by any Indian in ODIs.
He then accelerated more and became the first batter in ODIs to convert his maiden century into a double ton when he reached the landmark in 126 balls, also becoming the fastest to the landmark, beating Chris Gayle’s record.
Kishan was finally dismissed for 210 runs despite looking well set to give Rohit Sharma’s 264-run world record a run for its money.
In addition, Virat Kohli also scored his 44th ODI and 72nd overall international century, making 113 runs with 11 fours and 2 sixes and the duo added 290 runs for the second wicket as India posted 409/8 in 50 overs.
In reply, Bangladesh managed just 182 runs and lost by 227 runs.
Rohit Sharma, who is back in Mumbai to get his thumb injury assessed, took to Instagram to welcome Ishan Kishan to the ODI double-hundred club with a caption reading: “Yeh club ka mazza alag hai, @ishankishan23”
To this Ishan replied: “Maza hi maza hai.”
