Veteran pacer Jaydev Unadkat has earned a call-up to the Indian Test squad for the forthcoming series against Bangladesh as a replacement for Mohammad Shami, who has been ruled out of the tour with a hand injury.

A BCCI source confirmed the development to news agency PTI, stating that Unadkat is currently in Rajkot and waiting to complete his visa formalities, after which he will join the Test squad in Chattogram.

Unadkat, 31, has received this opportunity after years of grind in domestic cricket. The left-arm fast bowler, whose only Test appearance came in 2010 and last played for India in 2018, was overlooked in the red-ball side even though he finished the Ranji Trophy 2019-20 as the highest wicket-taker.

Unadkat led Saurashtra to their maiden title win and also bagged 67 wickets with a strike rate of 28.2 in the Ranji Trophy 2019-20 season. Overall, he has picked 353 scalps in 96 first-class matches at an impressive average of 23.04 with 20 five-wicket hauls.

The Indian team is due to play two Tests in Bangladesh. While the series opener is scheduled to be held in Chattogram from December 14-18, Dhaka is slated to host the second Test from December 22-26.
