India and Pakistan will lock horns in the Asia Cup 2025 final on September 28.
It remains to be seen how the Suryakumar Yadav-led Indian side reacts to his presence at the post-match trophy ceremony.
On the eve of the summit clash, Naqvi has confirmed through a statement that he will present the coveted trophy to the winning captain.
"I'm excited to witness a great final and look forward to handing over the trophy to the winners tomorrow," Naqvi said in a statement issued by ACC.
With Team India maintaining a 'no handshake' policy with Pakistan in the continental tournament, it is highly unlikely that the BCCI will allow its players to engage with a PCB chief whose public stance has been anti-India, news agency PTI reported.
It was on Naqvi's insistence that the PCB filed an official complaint with the ICC seeking the removal of match referee Andy Pycroft for the handshake row in the group-stage match on September 14. However, the demand was rejected by the apex body.
Later, the Naqvi-led PCB also lodged complaints against Suryakumar Yadav. The Pakistan board had Level 4 charges against the Indian captain for dedicating his team's September 14 victory to his country's Armed Forces and for also expressing solidarity with the families of the victims of the Pahalgam terror attack.
"As of now, information is that he will come this evening and obviously, as ACC chairman, he will be giving away the winner's trophy. Let's see what the BCCI decides," PTI quoted a tournament insider as saying.
Meanwhile, Mohsin Naqvi has shared a cryptic video message on social media, showing Cristiano Ronaldo’s goal celebration depicting a plane crash. It's the same provocative gesture that Haris Rauf made repeatedly in the September 21 clash against India, leading to 30% match fee fine on him.
