The Indian team defeated Pakistan in the final of the Asia Cup 2025 to win the title for the ninth time. However, they are yet to receive the Asia Cup trophy and the winner’s medals, which have been locked in the ACC office by Chief Mohsin Naqvi.

This happened because the Indian team refused to take the Asia Cup trophy from Mohsin Naqvi, who, apart from being the ACC chief, is also the head of the Pakistan Cricket Board and the interior minister of Pakistan. He had posted some unsavory things against India and the Indian team after they had refused to shake hands with the Pakistani team, and mentioned Operation Sindoor and the Indian army.

Now, Cricbuzz has reported that the Asia Cup trophy is currently locked up in the ACC office in Dubai after Mohsin Naqvi ordered it to be carried away from the Dubai International Stadium after the Indian team refused to accept it from him.

Naqvi, the chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), appears to have given the ACC staff instructions not to transfer it from the office without his permission. The office, located within the ICC Academy complex in Dubai, is operated by two employees.

The main question today is how the standoff will be resolved.

At the ACC Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Dubai on September 30, it was determined that the ACC's five Test-playing nations—India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan—would debate on the unresolved issue and reach an agreement. Their meeting is slated for early next month, which coincides with the ICC's quarterly conference in Dubai.

However, things might get complicated if Naqvi does not show up for the meeting, as there is no guarantee that he will come for the same. He had, in fact, stayed away from the ICC Annual Conference in July, and some in the ACC anticipate he will send a representative to the meeting, which is set for November 4-7.

In such a case, the deadlock may prolong, and the trophy may continue to collect dust in the ACC office until the ACC members use some common sense. Of course, a lot depends on how the BCCI handles the problem.

The BCCI is not helpless, and it may take steps to ensure that the Indian team obtains the trophy it earned by defeating Pakistan in the final. BCCI officials told Cricbuzz that there is some time left before the meeting, and the board will chart its next course of action in due course.
