Rohit and Kohli will make their India comeback after CT 2025 in Australia ODIs.
Apart from the aforementioned three ODIs, India will also play five T20Is down under in a packed schedule. The ODI series begins on October 19 in Perth and will see the return of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli in India colors.
Kohli and Rohit retired from T20Is in 2024 and, in May this year, announced retirement from Tests as well. This meant that their last outing for India was in March 2025, when they won the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 in Dubai.
Both of them last played any competitive cricket in IPL 2025, and since then, they have been doing their own things to stay fit and get ready for the Australia tour. Rohit Sharma was replaced as Test and ODI captain by Shubman Gill recently, and there was a lot of speculation about the form of the two legendary white-ball cricketers.
However, the two have shown commitment to play till the 2027 ICC World Cup, and India coach Gautam Gambhir was asked about whether Rohit and Kohli will remain in contention for a potential swansong in 24 months.
"The 50-over World Cup is still two and a half years away. I think it is very important to stay in the present. That is very important. Obviously, they are quality players, and their experience will be valuable in Australia. Hopefully, both will have a successful tour in Australia,” Gambhir said, as per the Times of India.
The three ODIs will be played in Perth, Adelaide, and Sydney on October 19, 23, and 25.
India remains a team in transition under 26-year-old Gill after the retirements of stalwarts Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. Gill's India won the opening Test by an innings and 140 runs, having secured a thrilling 2-2 draw in their five-Test series in England in June-August.
