Marnus Labuschagne was confident about a caught behind appeal with no one interested.
Australia cricketer Marnus Labuschagne surprised commentators with his bizarre appeal during the third day of the Brisbane Test. Former Australia cricketers Mark Waugh and Adam Gilchrist were confused with the loud appeal.
It was the 63rd over of India's first innings when Washington Sundar moved out of the way of a short ball by Josh Hazlewood. There was a big gap between Sundar's bat and the ball, but Labuschagne, standing at the forward short-leg, thought Australia have got another wicket as soon as wicket-keeper Tim Paine collected the ball.
“That is the worst appeal I have ever heard,” Waugh said during commentary in Fox cricket. There was no other Australia player supporting the appeal and the bowler Hazlewood simply walked back to his run-up for the next delivery.
“What is he doing?”, Waugh continued. "Do you think he was having a bad dream or something? What is he doing? What is Marnus Labuschagne appealing for?"
As the camera focused on Labuschagne, Gilchrist said, “He still looks bemused, look."
"Not surprised our producer didn’t put the DRS countdown clock on there because there was no one else interested in the stadium." Waugh said. “I’ve got no idea what happened there.”
“I wonder what Marnus was thinking and what planet he was on?”, joked Gilchrist while talking about the appeal.
Washington was finally dismissed after scoring a counter-attacking 62 in the second innings. India managed to put up a 336 on the board despite a collapse in the middle order.
