Sundar and Thakur shared a 123-run partnership for the seventh wicket at Gabba, Brisbane.
Team India has more often than not found heroes in the most adverse conditions in the ongoing Test series against Australia taking them out of tough situations. In India's first innings of the fourth Test in Brisbane, it was the time for Shardul Thakur and debutant Washington Sundar to stand up for the side.
India found themselves 6 wickets down for 186 runs, still trailing by 183 runs in the first session of day 3. That is when Shardul Thakur joined Washington Sundar in the middle and kept the Australian bowlers at bay, adding more than 100 runs for the seventh wicket partnership.
Both of them recorded their maiden Test half-centuries at a pretty quick rate and reduced the lead conceded by India by a significant amount.
Shardul Thakur scored 67 runs off 115 deliveries including 9 fours and 2 sixes. He also instilled some aggression in his partner Sundar as well, who scored 62 off 144 deliveries, hitting 7 boundaries and a massive six along the way.

By the time their 123-run partnership came to an end, India were trailing by just 60 runs and the tide had certainly turned. The Australians used all their bowlers to try and counter the right-left combo battling hard.
Indian skipper Virat Kohli, who is currently back home, praised the application shown Thakur and Sundar and complimented them on Twitter.
He wrote, "Outstanding application and belief by @Sundarwashi5 and @imShard. This is what test cricket is all about. Washy top composure on debut and tula parat maanla re Thakur!"
