India managed to draw the third Test match at SCG after a long fight.
Former Australia captain Ricky Ponting had made a prediction that India wouldn't be able to cross 200 in the second innings of the third Test at SCG. His prediction didn't come true as Rishabh Pant score a quick 117-ball 97 to give India hope in the match.
Indian cricket team managed to draw the third Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy by surviving the fifth day after losing Pant and Cheteshwar Pujara (77) in the second session. But former India cricketers Virender Sehwag and Wasim Jaffer didn't miss out on taking a jibe at the prediction.
Ponting had taken over the 7Cricket Twitter handle for a Q&A called 'Ask Ricky'. On a question about the right score for Australia to declare, he had replied, "310 ahead at the moment, but I honestly think India won't make 200 in the second innings #AskRicky".
Sehwag quoted the tweet with Ponting and Pant's picture from IPL, while Jaffer suggested them to delete the tweet.
Here are the responses:
India had 8 wickets in hand when they came out to bat on day five. They lost skipper Ajinkya Rahane very early and things were not looking good going ahead. But Pant and Pujara took control of the innings.
Although India lost both of them in the second session, the hopes of a draw was kept alive by R Ashwin and Hanuma Vihari, who suffered a hamstring injury. Eventually, the visitors managed to draw the match after a long fight, ensuring the tail doesn't get exposed.
