The first ODI of the three-match series between Australia and India at the SCG was won by the home side after a terrific batting and bowling performance enabled them to overpower their opposition.

Batting first after winning the toss, Australia posted 374/6 with Steve Smith (105), Aaron Finch (114), Warner (69), and Maxwell (45) being the top-scorers. It was an amazing batting display with Finch and Warner added 156 runs for the first wicket and then Smith and Finch adding 100 plus runs for the second wicket.

AUS v IND 2020-21: Chahal earns unwanted record; concedes most runs by an Indian spinner in ODIs

Smith made his century in 62 balls, the third fastest for any Australian in ODIs. For India, Mohammad Shami was the pick of bowlers with 3/59, while Saini and Chahal went for more than 80 runs each.

In reply, India needed a good start, but Josh Hazlewood (3/55) dismissed Mayank Agarwal (22), Virat Kohli (21), and Shreyas Iyer for just 2 runs to put brakes on any Indian hopes for a miracle win.

However,  Shikhar Dhawan (74 with 10 fours) and Hardik Pandya (90 with 7 fours and 4 sixes) added 128 runs for the 5th wicket. This partnership gave some hope to the Indians, but the task was too difficult after Adam Zampa removed KL Rahul (12), and both Pandya and Dhawan.

He finished with figures of 4/54, as India finished with 308/8 and Australia won the match by 66 runs.
