Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi will play hosts to Indian team for three T20Is.
Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) and the BCCI are in constant discussions about the three-match T20I series that will be played in Delhi. This will be the first time that Afghanistan will host India in international cricket.
The three T20I matches are scheduled for September 13, 15 and 17 and will be played at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. However, reports have stated that there appears to be a move to alter the dates of the series.
The ACB seeks to advance the schedule by a few days, including the possibility of having a game on September 14, the day of Ganesh Chaturthi, as per Cricbuzz.
“The three matches were originally scheduled for September 13, 15 and 17, but it is learnt that the BCCI has received a request to move them to September 11, 13 and 14, taking into account the cultural events in India around those dates. The ACB is also believed to have cited a request from its stakeholders in proposing the BCCI.
It is understood to have argued that scheduling the matches on the revised dates, including one on festival day, would have a positive impact on viewership and crowd turnout at the venue,” the Cricbuzz report read.
ACB officials are positive that the BCCI will accede to the request. The Indian squad has a free window following the end of the Test series in Sri Lanka (August 27) and the start of the Asian Games (September 24), as the series against Bangladesh appears to be out of the question.
In June, India hosted Afghanistan for a Test and a three-match ODI series. The upcoming T20I series will complete the teams’ engagements across all three formats.
