AFG v IND 2026: Afghanistan Board reaches out to BCCI; seeks change in T20I schedule due to Ganesh Chaturthi festival- Report

Afghanistan is set to host India for three T20Is in Delhi.

The Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) is considering revising the itinerary for the upcoming three T20Is against India. The three T20Is between the two nations will take place at New Delhi's Arun Jaitley Stadium on September 13, 15, and 17, according to recent confirmation from the ACB and BCCI.  

On Thursday, however, sources with knowledge of the situation confirmed that the ACB wants one T20I game to be played on September 14 due to the Ganesh Chaturthi festival.

The September 14 match might add a unique cultural element to the series if the BCCI approves the aforementioned idea. One of the matches scheduled for September 13 or 15 could take place on September 14 if the plan is carried out.

The three T20Is are currently set for Sunday, September 13, Tuesday, September 15, and Thursday, September 17. One of the Twenty20 Internationals should be moved to Monday, according to the ACB.  

The ACB wants to revise the schedule, as the Ganesh Chaturthi festival holiday might lead to a low public turnout.  

Additionally, it has been confirmed that the ACB has started negotiations with broadcasters to guarantee the matches' television coverage.

“Discussions with leading broadcasters like Sony Sports and Star Sports are currently underway for the television broadcast,” the source told Hindustan Times Digital on Thursday.

FanCode is expected to stream the three T20Is digitally, but one is waiting for a clearer picture regarding the television broadcast rights. The ITW Universe will handle the media rights and on-the-ground branding for the upcoming series.

The three T20Is are also expected to give ample preparation to both teams ahead of the upcoming Asian Games.
