Ravindra Jadeja last played ODIs for India against New Zealand in January 2026.
The BCCI on September 16, 2026, announced the India ODI squad for the upcoming three-match series against the West Indies at home. Several of the ODI regulars are part of the Indian T20I squad for the Asian Games 2026 in Japan and hence missed out, as this series will run parallel with the quadrennial event.
The three-match ODI series will be played on September 27 in Trivandrum, September 30 in Guwahati, and October 3 in New Chandigarh. India and the West Indies will also play five T20Is after the ODI series.
The three-match white-ball assignment will see Shubman Gill continue as captain, while Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have both been picked for the ODI fixtures.
Yashasvi Jaiswal and Ruturaj Gaikwad have also been named in the squad, along with KL Rahul being named the vice-captain in the absence of Shreyas Iyer. Naman Dhir and Auqib Nabi have received their maiden India ODI call-up.
Dhruv Jurel pipped Rishabh Pant as the backup keeper to KL Rahul. Nitish Kumar Reddy was withdrawn from the Asian Games squad and added to the ODI squad. Ravindra Jadeja and Kuldeep Yadav will lead the spin department. Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, and Gurnoor Brar are among the pace options.
Ravindra Jadeja had been ignored for the previous ODI assignments against Afghanistan at home and in England, as his previous appearance in the 50-over format came against New Zealand in early 2026.
Jadeja has made 2905 runs and taken 232 wickets in 210 ODIs since making his debut in 2009. However, his performance with the ball in the last two years has been below par, with 12 wickets in 10 games in 2025, while he went wicketless against New Zealand in January this year in three games.
There were questions about whether Ravindra Jadeja would be picked in the Indian ODI squad again. He was overlooked for two consecutive ODI series, but his return to the lineup for the West Indies series has given him a new ray of hope. This inclusion might also mean that Jadeja is still on the BCCI selectors' radar for the ICC World Cup 2027 in South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia.

He also shared an inspirational poem as well, which encapsulates the spirit of someone who is not ready to give up on life and will continue to strive for greatness. He also used three emojis, including one of crossed fingers, signifying hope.
