Simran Shaikh was the most expensive buy at INR 1.90 Crore in WPL auction.
The WPL 2025 Auction was held on Sunday (15th December) in Bengaluru. A few players were sold at the event as the franchises confirmed their teams for the next Women's Premier League (WPL) season, which is set to begin in February of next year.
The WPL Auction 2025 was scheduled to fill up to 19 spots. 14 of them were Indians, while 5 were from other countries. All of the teams had a combined purse of INR 16.7 crore going into the event, hence it concluded fast, as opposed to the IPL 2025 auction, which lasted two days.
India’s Simran Shaikh was the most expensive buy in the WPL 2025 auction as she was picked by Gujarat Giants for INR 1.90 crs. West Indies’ Deandra Dottin was the most expensive overseas buy at INR 1.70 Cr, also bought by Gujarat Giants.
G Kamalini also received a lucrative agreement worth INR 1.60 crore from the Mumbai Indians. Prema Rawat, an Indian player, was one of the most expensive players in the WPL Auction 2025, with Royal Challengers Bengaluru paying INR 1.20 crore.
Delhi Capitals Women brought three players in Nandini Kashyap, N Charani, and Sarah Bryce, while Deandra Dottin and Simran Shaikh were purchased by Gujarat Giants.
Nadine de Klerk, G. Kamalini, and Sanskriti Gupta will be playing for Mumbai Indians in WPL 2025, whereas Arushi Goel, Kranti Goud, and Alana King will be donning UP Warriorz jerseys.
Amongst the big players, Sneh Rana, who was the stand-in skipper for the Giants in the first season, did not find a buyer. Apart from her, many big-name players like Heather Knight, Lauren Bell, Lizelle Lee, Maia Boucher, Kim Garth, and Darcie Brown among others went unsold.
