Delhi Capitals (DC) opener Shafali Verma opened up about her exceptional performance in the ongoing Women's Premier League (WPL 2024). She credited her success to a slight change in her mindset, which enabled her to capitalize on her good starts and convert them into big scores.

The young batting sensation also acknowledged the influence of playing alongside senior cricketers like DC skipper Meg Lanning, saying it is a privilege to open with the former Australian skipper.

In the 7th match of the ongoing WPL 2024, Verma showcased her prowess by scoring 51 runs off 30 balls and stitching a crucial partnership of 82 runs with Alice Capsey (46) to power DC to a 25-run win over Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) on Thursday, February 29.

With this win, the DC is currently leading the WPL 2024 points table with four points, and Shafali’s aggressiveness is playing a pivotal role in their success.

Shafali Verma told Jio Cinema: “Last time in the WPL, I was getting out in the 30s or 40s. Those knocks taught me a lot. I think because of that, now I want to convert a 30 or 40-run score into a 50 for the team and for myself.”

She added, “The main change is a slight adjustment in my mindset and I want to take this forward. When a very experienced person is standing across from you, your body language changes on its own.”

Verma signed off by saying, “Playing with a player like that and building partnerships is a great privilege, in my opinion. She has changed the game with her batting.”

She is presently ranked fourth in the list of top run scorers with 115 runs at an impressive average of 57.50 in the ongoing WPL 2024.
