WPL announces list of retained and released players by franchises at the end of retention window

The Women’s Premier League (WPL) on October 19, 2023, announced the list of players retained and released ahead of the upcoming WPL 2024 auction.

The WPL 2023 was a hugely successful first edition of the women’s T20 tournament organized by the BCCI. It was played entirely in Mumbai, featuring UP Warriorz, Gujarat Giants, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Delhi Capitals, and Mumbai Indians.

Harmanpreet Kaur’s Mumbai Indians won the inaugural WPL 2023 title by defeating Delhi Capitals in the final of the tournament.  

The WPL committee revealed that the window for the five franchises to retain players for the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2024 season came to an end on October 15, 2023.

While 60 players, including 21 overseas cricketers, were retained across five franchises, 29 players were released from their existing squads.

Gujarat Giants are the team to release most number of players from its squad. GG have dropped 11 players from the squad that played the 2023 season which means they would be busy at the auction table for the 2024 season.

Current champions Mumbai Indians have dropped four players from their squad, while runners-up Delhi Capitals have released three players from the 2023 team.

Here is the list of players from the five WPL franchises who were retained & released from the squad (* denotes overseas player):
