Harleen Deol of Gujarat Giants (GG) was a livewire on the field against Mumbai Indians (MI) in the 12th match of the ongoing Women’s Premier League (WPL 2023) being played at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai on March 14, 2023.

Sneh Rana, captain of Gujarat Giants won the toss and chose to bowl first and Ash Gardner gave the perfect start by dismissing MI opener Hayley Matthews for a duck in the first over itself. But then Yastika Bhatia (44) and Nat Sciver-Brunt (36) stabilized the innings with a 74-run second-wicket stand.

After that, captain Harmanpreet Kaur got into action and slammed 51 in 30 balls with 7 fours and 2 sixes, and Amelia Kerr contributed 19 runs as MI posted 162/8 in 20 overs. For GG, Ash Gardner with 3/34 was the star with the ball.

However, Harleen Deol was a star when it came to fielding as she showcased skills with her aim and catching prowess.

The first of her victims was Humaira Kazi, who tried to get the skipper back on strike in the 19th over. Kaur heaved the ball to the cow corner boundary and ran quickly for a double. By the time, Kazi turned for the second run, Harleen had picked the ball and threw at the bowling end in one swift motion.

Before Kazi could make her ground, the ball thudded into the stumps on the full, catching her well short of the crease.

One over later, on the 4th ball of the 20th over, Harmanpreet Kaur extended her arms and heaved the ball toward wide long-on. Everyone expected the ball to bisect the two fielders, but Harleen Deol charged full tilt near the boundary and brought out a full-length dive to catch the ball mid-air before hitting the ground.
