Delhi Capitals beat UP Warriorz by 42 runs.
Delhi Capitals (DC) registered their second straight win after defeating UP Warriorz (UPW) by 42 runs in Match 5 of the Women's Premier League (WPL 2023) on Tuesday (March 7) at DY Patil Stadium.
UPW captain Alyssa Healy won the toss and elected to field, as DC piled up a massive score of 211/4 thanks to captain Meg Lanning (70), Jemimah Rodrigues (34*) and Jess Jonassen (42*).
In reply, UPW could only manage 169/5 despite a valiant knock of 90* by Tahlia McGrath, but she received very little support from the other end. Jonassen rounded off a great match to finish with 3/43 and also won the Player-of-the-Match award.
Apart from the individual brilliance of Lanning, Jonassen and McGrath, there were also two excellent catches in the match, first by UPW's Kiran Navgire and then by DC's Radha Yadav.
Navgire's stunning effort on the deep fine-leg boundary helped UPW get rid of well-set Shafali Verma for 17, as she tried to flick the ball past her.
Radha Yadav then took the stakes up to the next level as dived forward on the long-on boundary to take the catch just inches off the ground to send Deepti Sharma packing.
