Delhi Capitals have reached four WPL finals in four seasons and lost all of them.
Delhi Capitals posted 203/4 after being asked to bat first, thanks to 57 by captain Jemimah Rodrigues, 44 by Laura Wolvaardt, 37 by Lizelle Lee, and a quick 35* by Chinelle Henry. In response, Georgia Voll hammered 79 in 54 balls, and captain Smriti Mandhana smashed 87 in 41 balls as RCB chased down the total with 6 wickets in hand.
This was RCB’s second WPL title after their first win in 2024; however, for Delhi Capitals, they lost the WPL final for the fourth consecutive time in four seasons.
Jemimah Rodrigues was named Delhi Capitals captain after they let go of Meg Lanning, who led them into the finals of the first three WPL editions. The franchise did well, as Rodrigues had expressed belief that the team would finally pass the final hurdle.
However, despite posting a total of 200 in the final, DC was completely outplayed by RCB batters, who made the tough chase look easy.
Rodrigues was seen shedding tears in a heartbreaking moment, but she approached Smriti Mandhana, and the two friends shared a hug in a heartwarming moment. Mandhana also made Rodrigues laugh by saying something and then strolled a bit with her hand on the DC captain’s shoulder.
