The excitement for the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 is increasing with every passing day. The quadrennial event will be held in India from October 5 to November 19.

With nearly two months left for the World Cup, the fans and experts have started picking their favourites for the showpiece tournament.

Former England skipper Eoin Morgan has also joined the bandwagon, opining that hosts India are strong contenders to win the 50-over World Cup.

“The team has formidable skills, and can, indeed, be strong contenders in the upcoming World Cup. They also need to engage with and learn from the experiences of those who participated in the 2011 World Cup,” Morgan said in an interview with WION.

He also praised the Indian fans for their ‘unparalleled’ passion for the game of cricket.

“The enthusiasm and passion displayed by Indian fans are unparalleled, which makes this special," the World Cup winning England captain added.

Morgan further said that the 2023 ODI World Cup presents a "golden opportunity" for players to leave an indelible mark on one of the biggest stages in world cricket.

“For some, the World Cup will be the stage to announce their arrival at the grandest level, while for others, it might mark the end of illustrious careers,” he remarked.

India will open their World Cup campaign against five-time champions Australia in Chennai on October 8. The Rohit Sharma-led side will then face Afghanistan at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on October 11.

India’s third match in the marquee event is a high-octane clash against Pakistan on October 15 in Ahmedabad.

The Men in Blue will go up against Bangladesh on October 19 in Pune, while they will lock horns with New Zealand to try and avenge their 2019 semi-final defeat on October 22 at the picturesque HPCA Stadium in Dharamsala.

Team India will take on England in Lucknow on October 29, followed by the games against Sri Lanka and South Africa on November 2 and November 5 in Mumbai and Kolkata respectively.

India will play their last group stage match against Netherlands on November 11 in Bengaluru.
