Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma were benched for second ODI in a row, as India pocketed series 2-1.
India ended the three-ODI series in dominating fashion as crushed the hosts West Indies by 200 runs at the Brian Lara cricket stadium in Tarouba, Trinidad on August 1, 2023, to seal the series 2-1.
Indian team management once again opted to bench both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli while bringing in Ruturaj Gaikwad for Akshar Patel in the XI.
But a 143-run stand for the opening wicket by Ishan Kishan (77) and Shubman Gill (85) gave the team a good platform for a big score. Sanju Samson finally made an impact with a fifty, while Hardik Pandya, the stand-in skipper hammered 70* in 52 balls with Suryakumar Yadav making 35 runs as India posted 351/5 in 50 overs.
In response, West Indies just couldn’t get going after Mukesh Kumar (3/30) and Shardul Thakur (4/37) rattled the top order to reduce the hosts to 88/8. Though a half-century stand between Alzarri Joseph (26) and Gudakesh Motie (39*) took them to 151, the home side still lost by 200 runs.
Virat Kohli, who had the best seat in the house during the 3rd ODI, looked dapper as ever in his practice gear. The former India skipper was spotted wearing an ultra-expensive watch and also sported luxurious black sunglasses to complete a dapper yet relaxed look in the dugout.
The broadcasters added a special touch to it by using a famous Bollywood song ‘Kaala Chashma’ to depict the mood of Kohli.
