Virat Kohli scored his first overseas Test century since 2018.
The right-handed batter resumed his innings of the second day at 87* with Ravindra Jadeja for company on 36* with India at 288/4. Soon enough the 300 of the team was achieved and then the amazing moment came when Virat Kohli reached his much-awaited century.
He hit a wide full delivery from Shannon Gabriel through covers for four and completed his 29th Test and 76th international century. This ton was his first in Tests away from home since December of 2018 and the expression of relief was seen on his face.
Kohli also became the first batter to score a century in his 500th international match and his innings ended via a run out. He scored 121 runs in 206 balls with 11 fours, but most importantly, the monkey was off his back.
Virat Kohli had ended his century drought in international cricket which began in November 2019, in the Asia Cup last year against Afghanistan in a T20I and then scored a couple of ODI centuries as well. His first Test ton since 2019 came in March against Australia in Ahmedabad.
And now the overseas Test century drought has ended as well, with a sublime and gritty knock on a sluggish track.
This was not only an exhilarating moment for Virat Kohli but for his fans and even the Indian cricket fraternity.
Members of the Indian cricket fraternity took to Twitter and shared their joy on the social media platform while singing praises of Virat Kohli.
