Ashwin picked a fifer in 1st innings of first Test and also completed 700 wickets in international cricket.
West Indies batted first after winning the toss and was bundled out for 150 runs with debutant Alick Athanaze top-scoring with 47 runs. R Ashwin picked his 33rd Test fifer, finishing with figures of 5/60, while Ravindra Jadeja picked 3 wickets.
In response, India ended the day on 80 for no loss with Rohit Sharma unbeaten on 30 and Jaiswal on 40*.
Playing his first Test, Jaiswal looked a little nervous at the start of his innings but then adjusted pretty well and started to showcase his much-talked-about potential with the bat.
"He (Jaiswal) just reverse swept the first ball of the last over! That’s what you can expect from him. He is very vibrant. I hope he goes on to do great things in his career. I think we’re going to see some special performances from him. From our side, we hope to keep the environment good for him,” Ashwin said about his Rajasthan Royals and now India teammate Jaiswal.
Ashwin also reached a huge milestone, as he completed 700 wickets in international cricket, and explained how adapting to the pitch conditions played a key role in the initial phase of the game.
Yashasvi Jaiswal took some time to get going, but as soon as he became comfortable with the pitch conditions, he began to confidently take on the bowlers.
With a skillfully performed shot that found the barrier for a four, he opened his account. He attempted to hit the boundary again with a subsequent shot, but the fielder stopped him from claiming consecutive boundaries.
