Having been knocked out of the 2023 ODI World Cup qualification race, West Indies will play the rest of the World Cup Qualifier without two of their leading bowlers.

Alzarri Joseph and Jason Holder are all set to leave Zimbabwe early to start preparations for the all-format home series against India.

West Indies still have Super Six matches to come against Oman and Sri Lanka, while their home series against India is due to begin next week.

"Jason and Alzarri are two of our leading bowlers in all formats," Desmond Haynes, head selector of West Indies men's team, said in a statement.

"We have a full schedule for the upcoming series against India, where we begin the new ICC World Test Championship, then followed by the ODIs and the five T20Is.

“It was felt the best move at this time is to have two of our leading bowlers return early from Zimbabwe."

Caribbean cricket hit a new low last week as they were eliminated from the upcoming ODI World Cup race after a seven-wicket defeat at the hands of Scotland in the Super Six round of the World Cup 2023 Qualifiers.

The ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023, slated to be held in India from October 5 to November 19, will be the first edition to not feature the West Indies, who won the first two editions of the tournament in 1975 and 1979.

Talking about West Indies’ home series against India, it will be comprised of two Tests, three ODIs and five T20Is.

The series begins with two Test matches as part of the 2023-2025 ICC World Test Championship cycle. Windsor Park in Dominica will host the first Test match from July 12-16 while the second Test will be played at Queen’s Park Oval in Trinidad from July 20-24.

The Test series is followed by three One-Day Internationals. The ODI series will get underway at Kensington Oval in Barbados on July 27. Barbados will also host the second ODI on July 29 while the 50-over series concludes on August 1 at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Trinidad.

The T20I series starts at Brian Lara Cricket Academy on August 3. Guyana will stage the second and third T20Is on August 6 and August 8 respectively. The T20I series concludes in Lauderhill, Florida with a blockbuster weekend of back-to-back matches on August 12 and August 13 at Broward County Cricket Stadium.
