The Indian team fans on the internet were left divided after the BCCI announced the Test squad for the West indies tour on June 23, 2023.

The Test series starts with the red-ball format in Windsor Park, Dominica on July 12 and the second Test will be played at the Queen's Park Oval in Trinidad on July 20.

While new faces like Yashasvi Jaiswal, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Mukesh Kumar were included in the side and Cheteshwar Pujara dropped; the biggest issue of contention for some fans was the appointment of Ajinkya Rahane as the vice-captain of the team, with Rohit Sharma leading the side.

India was without a vice-captain in Tests since KL Rahul was removed from the position during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy Series at home.

Rahane had recently made his India Test comeback in the WTC 2023 final, after being out of contention for well over 18 months or so. He did well in the WTC summit clash making 89 and 46.

But since he has only played one Test since his return, him becoming the vice-captain once more drew mixed reactions on social media with a section even calling him as the next replacement for Rohit.
