India and West Indies clashed in the final match of the three-match ODI series on Wednesday (July 27) and the visitors succeeded in completing a 3-0 cleansweep with an easy win by 119 runs (DLS method).

Stand-in captain Shikhar Dhawan won his first toss of the series and opted to bat first with Prasidh Krishna coming in for Avesh Khan in the playing XI. West Indies made three changes as Jason Holder, Keemo Paul and Keacy Carty replaced Alzarri Joseph, Romario Shepherd, and Rovman Powell.

Dhawan (58) added a 113-run partnership for the opening wicket with Shubman Gill, before rain stopped play with India at 115/1 in 24 overs. The game was reduced to 40 overs per-side contest, as Gill and Shreyas (44) batted really well after the break to provide the momentum to the visitors.

With India at 225/3 in 36 overs and Gill unbeaten on 98, rain once again forced the players to walk off the park. Unfortunately, the Indian innings did not resume and the youngster missed out on what could have been his maiden international hundred.

West Indies were set a revised DLS target of 257 in 35 overs, and their chase was dented even before it could really begin as Mohammed Siraj dismissed Kyle Mayers and Shamarh Brooks for ducks. Thereafter, India kept piling on the pressure as the hosts lost wickets at regular intervals, eventually getting bowled out for 137 in 26 overs.

Brandon King and Nicholas Pooran scored 42 each but it was too little to stress Shikhar Dhawan and his team. Leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal picked up 4/17, with Mohammed Siraj and Shardul Thakur taking two wickets each. Akshar Patel and Prasidh Krishna also bagged a wicket each.

Shubman Gill was named the Player-of-the-Match and Player-of-the-Series after scoring 64, 43 and 98* in the three matches.

India won the ODI series 3-0 and the two teams will now meet in the five-match T20I series, starting on Friday (July 29).
