Team India opener KL Rahul, who was diagnosed Covid-19 positive on July 21, is all set to miss the T20I series against the West Indies, due to get underway on July 29.

In a video tweeted by BCCI on July 26, skipper Rohit Sharma, wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant among 7 players arrived in Trinidad for the T20I series.

Rahul, who was also named in the T20I squad, didn’t appear in the video and the fans started wondering where the star batter was.

While the Indian board is yet to clear the air regarding Rahul’s participation, a report published in ESPNCricinfo claims that the right-hander will not feature in the five-match series due to post infection recovery.

According to the report, Rahul has been advised one more week's rest and recuperation by the BCCI's medical team.

The report further suggests that Rahul, who has been recovering at the NCA in Bengaluru since returning from Germany after going through a sports hernia surgery in late June, will now be available for the ODIs against Zimbabwe in August.

“He was understood to be a doubt for the T20I leg of the West Indies tour even if he returned the two mandatory negative tests. Depending on the outcome of his cardiovascular tests, Rahul could have been in consideration for the USA leg of the West Indies T20Is, on August 6 and 7. But now it appears certain that he will skip the tour altogether and instead focus on the ODIs in Zimbabwe, which are part of the World Cup Super League,” said the report.

KL Rahul has been out of competitive cricketing action since featuring in the IPL 2022 Eliminator for LSG against RCB on May 25. He suffered a groin injury ahead of the T20I series against South Africa last month, ruling him out of all five games. He was supposed to lead India in that series.

Things got even worse for him when Rahul was ruled out of the rescheduled Test against England followed by the white-ball games. The batter, in the meantime, flew to Germany and underwent a successful surgery.
