India won the second ODI against West Indies by 2 wickets in a close encounter as half-centuries from Shreyas Iyer, Sanju Samson and Akshar Patel helped the Men in Blue chase down the 312-run target in Trinidad on July 24.

Shai Hope’s brilliant century in his 100th ODI and half-century from Nicholas Pooran, the Windies captain propelled the home side to 311 runs in 50 overs after Pooran won the toss and chose to bat first.

Indian chase saw the batters struggling on the two-paced wicket as the West Indies bowlers bowled with variations and kept the scoring rate in check. It was eventually Akshar Patel’s 64* with 5 sixes and 3 fours that helped India cross the finish line in the final over.

However, controversy ensued earlier in the Indian innings as a set Shreyas Iyer was given LBW out on the delivery from Alzarri Joseph. The West Indies bowler bowled a yorker honing on the leg-stump which Iyer tried to whip on the leg-side, but the ball hit his pads.

The on-field umpire gave Iyer out, but he opted for a review. The review showed that the ball had pitched on the leg-stump, but the ball tracking showed that the ball would have missed the stumps.

However, as many on Twitter noticed, the projection then actually showed that the ball would have hit the leg-stump and the decision stood.

The whole incident left a bad taste in the mouth of cricket fans, especially that of the Indian team and they reacted by criticizing the use of poor technology, with some even hinting at tampering with DRS.
