Jadeja will miss the first two ODIs due to knee injury.
Ahead of the first ODI against West Indies in Trinidad, Team India suffered a major blow as their vice-captain for the series Ravindra Jadeja was ruled out of the first two games with his availability for the third game also under the scanner.
BCCI made the news public on their Twitter account and released the official statement, stating the all-rounder sustained a knee injury and the medical team is assessing him following which call on his selection for the third game will be taken.
“Team India all-rounder Mr. Ravindra Jadeja has sustained an injury to his right knee and has been ruled out of the first two ODIs against West Indies. The BCCI Medical team is monitoring his progress and a decision on his participation in the third ODI will be taken accordingly,” BCCI said in an official statement.
Reacting to this, Jadeja’s IPL franchise Chennai Super Kings (CSK) sent their wishes to their former captain for a speedy recovery.
"Wishing you a speedy recovery, Rockstar! #WIvIND #WhistlePodu @imjadeja," CSK wrote on Twitter.
CSK’s tweet came as surprise for many as various reports recently suggested the rift between Jadeja and the franchise. Notably, the all-rounder was named skipper of the side ahead of the league and after that he stepped down, having led the team to 2 wins from 8 matches. He was replaced by MS Dhoni.
Jadeja only played 2 matches under Dhoni before being ruled out of the season due to a bruised rib. However, after the season he unfollowed CSK’s account and even deleted pictures related to the franchise posted on his account.
In Jadeja’s absence, Shreyas Iyer was named the vice-captain of the side. He did a pretty decent job and he supported Dhawan well both on the field as well as with the bat. While the skipper scored 97 runs his deputy registered the score of 54 runs.
