West Indies captain Nicholas Pooran won the toss and chose to field first.
Sporting his huge trademark smile, Dhawan came for the toss, which he lost as West Indies skipper Nicholas Pooran chose to bowl first after winning the coin flip.
During the conversation with the presenter at the toss, former West Indies opener Darren Ganga, Dhawan was asked by him what kind of captain he thinks he is.

To this, Dhawan gave a very sassy reply and said: "I'm a very cool captain and like to guide the team, I will love to take the right decision but importantly make sure the process is right, we are focusing on the process and make sure we get the right result.”

“It's complimentary, so much of talent in the country due to our domestic cricket and the IPL. The boys got a lot of exposure, it's a great opportunity for all to showcase our talent. There's Surya, Shreyas, Sanju all the boys are quite good - even myself (smiles). Lots of fans come from overseas to support us, we always like playing here in the Caribbean, the guys are really looking forward to it,” he further added.
India picked Shubman Gill as Dhawan's opening partner while Shreyas Iyer, Suryakumar Yadav, Sanju Samson, and Deepak Hooda make a strong middle order. Axar Patel got an opportunity as Ravindra Jadeja was ruled out of the first two matches due to a knee injury. He will partner with Yuzvendra Chahal in the spin department.
As for the pace bowling attack, Shardul Thakur, Mohammed Siraj, and Prasidh Krishna were chosen in the India XI.
