All 23 districts in Punjab state have been hit by floods with lives and livestock lost, crops destroyed.
Floods have flooded hundreds of villages, destroyed crops valued at thousands of crores, and killed 43 people. According to Punjab Minister Hardeep Singh Mundian, around 3.84 lakh people live in 1,902 villages spread across 23 districts.
Shreyas Iyer has called on followers to show their support for the flood-affected state and donate to help during these trying times.
“We all know that Punjab's strength and courage are its true identity. The love I've received from the people of Punjab is my greatest strength. Today, the floods have brought us down, but together, we can overcome this challenge. Every contribution you make can give someone new hope. Together, we will see Punjab smiling again. Let’s unite and come together for Punjab. Every contribution counts,” said Iyer in a video shared by Punjab Kings.
PBKS and Global Sikh Charity have partnered to raise money to help those affected by the floods. To give the victims the most relief possible, the IPL team has set a goal of raising INR 2 crore from public donations.
In order to support flood-affected people in the State, PBKS already donated INR 33.8 lakhs, which would go towards supplying inflatable rescue boats for stranded family evacuation, medical crises, and the delivery of necessary relief materials and clean drinking water.
In Punjab, almost 1,000 villages have been flooded, and over 61,000 hectares of agriculture have been swamped, forcing roughly 1.46 million people to relocate. The floods were caused by heavy rains in Himachal Pradesh and Jammu & Kashmir, as well as dam releases upstream, and were fueled by swelling Sutlej, Beas, and Ravi rivers.
