The ODIs format remains Virat Kohli’s only international commitment now.
However, one familiar face was missing from the get-together was Virat Kohli as the star batter reportedly did not fly back to India to take the tests.
According to a report published in Dainik Jagran, Kohli did not miss the recent fitness tests but it was conducted in London.
It is well documented that Kohli now resides in London along with his wife and kids, but one would have expected the stalwart to arrive in Bengaluru for the fitness tests. But he underwent the test in London instead, and the report has now been submitted to the BCCI.
A BCCI official told the leading Hindi daily that Kohli “would have definitely taken permission” to give his fitness test in London, but this special exception has all the potential to trigger a major controversy. In any case, it raises questions over team protocol and uniformity in decision-making.
The report about Kohli giving his fitness test in London did not sit well with Indian fans, as a few questioned why the former India captain is being given ‘special’ treatment.
Here are the reactions:
Having retired from T20Is after India’s 2024 World Cup win and from Tests before the England tour earlier this year, ODIs remain Virat Kohli’s only international commitment. He will be next seen in action during India’s white-ball tour of Australia next month.
