Samson followed up his 121 in the KCL with a fine knock of 89 runs.
Sanju Samson continued his brilliant run of form in the Kerala Cricket League on Tuesday (August 26) as he produced yet another explosive knock, headlined by a rare moment of scoring 13 runs off a single delivery.
Playing for Kochi Blue Tigers against Thrissur Titans, Samson took on Sijomon Joseph in the fifth over. He hammered the fourth ball for a stunning six and when the bowler repeated the delivery due to a no-ball, the wicketkeeper-batter deposited in the stands for another maximum on the free-hit, thereby collecting 13 runs from what went into the scorebook as one ball.
Coming out to open, Samson scored 89 runs off 46 balls. The right-hander batted at a strike rate of 193.48 and his whirlwind display, featuring 4 fours and 9 sixes, helped the side post 188/7 in their allotted 20 overs.
This latest effort comes just two days after Samson smashed 121 off 51 balls in a successful chase of 236 against Aries Kollam Sailors.
Sanju Samson batted at No. 6 in the first two matches of KCL 2025, leading to speculation about the batter being informed of his new role for the Asia Cup. In the first game, Samson did not get a chance to bat as the top order got the job done, while in the second, he failed to set the stage on fire, scoring just 13 runs off 22 balls. However, his return to the opening slot brought the best out of him.
With knocks of 121 and 89, Samson has strengthened his claims of opening the innings for India in the upcoming Asia Cup T20. Shubman Gill’s inclusion in the squad as vice-captain has put his place in the playing XI in jeopardy.
