Tim David's brilliant 83 outshone Ryan Rickelton's fighting 71 as Australia won in first T20I.
It was Tim David, who reigned supreme with 83 in 52 balls with 4 fours and 8 sixes. With Cameron Green, who made 35 with 3 fours and 3 sixes, David pushed Australia’s total to 178 runs. The next best score was 17 by Ben Dwarshuis.
Kwena Maphaka picked 4/20 and Kagiso Rabada took two wickets for South Africa.
In response, Ryan Rickelton and Tristan Stubbs were the main scorers for the Proteas. Stubbs made 37 with 5 fours, while Rickelton made 71 in 55 balls with 7 fours and one six. Rickelton threatened to take the game away from Australia, only for Maxwell to end his innings with his brilliance.
Maxwell jumped from inside the line to receive the ball, then released it over his shoulder to come back in and capture it again as Rickelton cut Dwarshuis' delivery towards long-on. Ben Dwarshuis took 3-26, while Josh Hazlewood took 3-27 and Adam Zampa took two wickets.
