India U19 were set 355 runs to win the second youth Test against England U19.
India U19 captain Ayush Mhatre led from the front as his team was tasked with chasing 355 runs in the second Youth Test against England U19 in Chelmsford. This, after IPL sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi got out for a golden duck.
Earlier, England U19 had posted 324/5d with BJ Dawkins scoring 136 and Adam Thomas slamming 91 runs, with them adding 188 runs for the first wicket. Aditya Rawat had taken four wickets for India.
India had to chase down 355 in the second half of the final day and got a jolt as Vaibhav Sooryavanshi was clean bowled on the first ball by Alex Green for a golden duck.
But his opening partner, Ayush Mhatre hammered the England U19 bowlers. He got support from Vihaan Malhotra (27), Abhigyan Kundu (65), as the India U19 captain played brilliant shots against both pacers and spinners.
Mhatre's 126 off 80 balls at a remarkable strike rate of 157.50 was the highlight of the innings, upsetting the English bowlers and instilling hope in an unlikely chase.
At the time of writing this, India had made 290/6 when rain and bad light stopped play. India needed 65 runs more in a minimum of 22 overs to go.
