Masood was in a foul mood after Pakistan lost second Multan Test by 120 runs to West Indies.
Pakistan captain Shan Masood lost his cool when a reporter tried to get aggressive in order to get him to answer a strong query. This came after Masood attended the press conference after Pakistan’s 120-run loss to West Indies in the second and final Test of the series in Multan on January 27, 2025.
Pakistan, tasked to chase 254 runs, was bowled out for 133 runs and lost by 120 runs. Babar Azam top-scored with 31, while Mohammad Rizwan made 25 runs, as West Indies’ Jomel Warrican picked 5/27 to give his team a Test win in Pakistan after 34 years.
Pakistan Test captain Shan Masood urged his country's media on Monday to quit demeaning players after being questioned whether he would step down as leader of the pack on his own or if the PCB would have to remove him.
The Pakistan skipper ignored the question and asked for the next one, to which the same journalist interrupted and demanded a response to his question first.
"You have your opinion and I respect that but there is a lot of disrespect in your question. You can't show disrespect to players, me, and the others. We all play for Pakistan and get results but no one will tolerate such disrespect. You have to understand that. You want to put someone down fine but we all are Pakistan players,” Masood said.
Masood said that the PCB is the decision maker and the players have always accepted whatever decisions the Board has made.
"You have to understand and appreciate that we are trying to do something different and you must study that. Anyone can google something but we are trying to do something and we have won three out of the last four Tests at home.
Shan admitted that Pakistan's failure to bowl out the West Indies fast on the opening day, after having them 38 for 7 and 8 for 64, was a major disappointment, as was their batting.
"We have been facing this problem of not being able to quickly get the lower order out for some time now and we have to find a way to resolve this because in Tests you have to grab the opportunities that come your way as a team,” he said.
