Rishabh Pant made 255 runs in 5 Tests in BGT 2024.
During pivotal moments in the just-ended Border Gavaskar Trophy series in Australia, Rishabh Pant received a lot of flak for his poor shot selection.
And it was too late to stop India from losing the series 1-3 by the time he realized his errors with a patient knock in Melbourne.
Fans are surprised to learn that Pant has "one of the best defenses" among the current hitters, according to former India off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin.
He explained what he meant, and Ashwin said it's difficult to dislodge Pant when he decides to defend, which he experienced while bowling to the Indian wicketkeeper-batter in the nets.
"Pant rarely gets out playing defense. He has got one of the best defenses in world cricket. Defense has become challenging; he has the best defense with a soft hand. I have bowled to him a lot in the nets. He has not gotten out, doesn't get an edge, does not get LBW. He has the best defense," said Ashwin on his YouTube channel.
Pant had a generally poor showing in Australia's most recent Border-Gavaskar Trophy series.
Particularly in the second innings of the fourth Test, after he had done everything in his power to achieve 30 of 103 balls, his careless shot selection and dismissals were criticized. He displayed unnecessary aggression the very next ball and was killed while attempting a massive shot.
He did show the two sides of his batting during the fifth Test in Sydney with two contrasting knocks -- a patient 40 off 98 deliveries, followed by an aggressive 61 from just 33 balls. Pant ended up making 255 runs in 9 innings during the five-Test series in Australia.
