Pakistan has finally snapped their losing streak in Tests after 6 consecutive losses and defeated England in the second Test in Multan on October 18, 2024. This is the first win for Pakistan Test captain Shan Masood since he took over earlier this year.

After losing the first Test in Multan by an innings and 47 runs, Pakistan needed to bounce back strongly. Shan Masood won the toss and chose to bat first in the second Test as well, as the same pitch was used that was employed in the first Test.

Debutant Kamran Ghulam led the way with a brilliant 118, while opener Saim Ayub made 77. The tail wagged and Pakistan posted 366 in their first innings. Jack Leach took 4 wickets, while Brydon Carse took 3 wickets for England.

In reply, Ben Duckett scored 114, but the next best score was Zak Crawley’s 27 and Jack Leach’s 25* as England could only manage 291 runs. Sajid Khan ran through England batting with 7/111, while Noman Ali picked 3 wickets.

In response, Pakistan posted 221 in their second innings with Salman Agha scoring 63 runs. Shoaib Bashir starred with 4/66, while Leach took 3 wickets.

England was set 297 runs to win the Test and pocket the series, but Pakistan spinners ran through their batting for the second time in the Test. Ben Stokes (37), Brydon Carse (27), and Ollie Pope (22) were the only significant scorers as England only posted 144 runs.

Sajid Khan took 2 wickets, while Noman Ali took 8/46 and completed 11 wickets in the match. Pakistan won the match by 152 runs and leveled the three-match series 1-1. Sajid Khan was named Player of the Match for his 9 wickets.

The cricket fraternity whole-heartedly lauded the Pakistan team’s effort to win the second Test against England. They took to X and praised Shan Masood and co.
