Joe Root was dropped on 186 and he went onto make 259* at lunch.
Pakistan and England are engaged in the first of the three Test matches, with the game being played in Multan. Pakistan had won the toss and chosen to bat first.
And thanks to centuries from Abdullah Shafique, Shan Masood, and Salman Ali Agha, posted 556 runs in their first innings.
However, England gave Pakistan a taste of their own medicine on the flattest wicket seen in recent times. Pakistan managed to dismiss England captain Ollie Pope for a duck and then Zak Crawley managed 78 runs.
But Joe Root then anchored one end and upped the scoring rate with Ben Duckett (84). However, the partnership of the England innings came when Root and Harry Brook got together and it was hard work for Pakistan bowlers from there on.
Both played risk-free cricket and stroked the ball to all parts of the Multan Stadium. At the time of writing this piece, Joe Root was on 259* and Harry Brook had made 218*, and together, they had added 409* runs for the 4th wicket, with England on 658/3 at lunch.
However, Pakistan had a golden chance to return Joe Root early on four days. Joe Root received a short ball from Naseem Shah and tried to steer it to the boundary. However, the shot was played uppishly and went straight to Babar Azam stationed at mid-wicket.
However, to the relief of Root and the angst of Naseem, Babar grassed the simple catch despite the ball coming to him at a good height and not very fast. Root was on 186 then, and his wicket could’ve renewed the Pakistani bowler's energy.
