India batted first after winning the toss and posted 172/3 in 20 overs.
Harmanpreet Kaur won the toss and chose that India would bat first. The openers Smriti Mandhana (50) and Shafali Verma (43) added 98 runs in 12.4 overs. And then Harmanpreet Kaur pressed on the accelerator as she hammered 52* in 27 balls with 8 fours and 1 six as India posted 172/3 in 20 overs.
In response, the Indian bowlers decimated the Sri Lanka top order including the dangerous Chamari Athapaththu for 1 run. However, the highlight in this early phase of India’s defense was the fielding.
Radhika Yadav, who was subbing, took an excellent high catch to remove Vishmi Gunaratne. The Lankan opener charged Renuka Thakur and tried to swat her on the leg side, but was only successful in edging the ball towards point.
Yadav ran towards her right from backward point and dived at the last moment to complete a screamer of a catch to send back Gunaratne for a duck.
