Former India opener Wasim Jaffer and ex-England skipper Michael Vaughan often engage in banter on social media. They pull each other’s legs at the expense of their team's performance.

On Tuesday (September 3), Jaffer got the opportunity to troll Vaughan after the latter called for a two-tier system in Test cricket for the 12 full-member nations of the ICC to keep the matches competitive.

“Test cricket needs to be 2 Divisions of 6 ASAP .. and spread the wealth of the game more evenly across all countries,” Vaughan tweeted.

His post came after England defeated Sri Lanka by 190 runs in the second Test at Lord’s to take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series.

Jaffer poked fun at Vaughan by sharing a screenshot, in which England can be seen languishing at the bottom of the World Test Championship (WTC) standings about a month ago.

“Timing is everything. And Michael is a wise man who understands that. That's why he didn't tweet this a month ago when WTC table looked like this #WTC25 #ENGvSL,” Jaffer captioned the post.

Notably, England haven’t managed to qualify for the WTC final in the past two editions. After losing 4-1 to India in an away series earlier this year, the Three Lions were in dire straits.

However, they have improved their chances of making the next year’s WTC final by beating the West Indies and Sri Lanka in the last five home Test matches.

Following the Sri Lanka series, England will travel to Pakistan for a three-match Test series that is set to begin on October 7 in Multan.
