ENG v WI 2024: WATCH- James Anderson receives guard of honor from both teams; bids goodbye in tearful farewell

James Anderson finished with 704 wickets in 188 Tests.

James Anderson, perhaps the greatest Test bowler England produced, bid goodbye in an emotional and tearful farewell at Lord’s on day three of the first Test against West Indies on July 12, 2024.

As James Anderson took the field for the final time in his Test career, he received a guard of honor from both England and West Indies teams. England's side stood at one end and the West Indies opposite to them to form a corridor for Anderson to walk through.

Anderson gracefully accepted the honor and also acknowledged both the captains and the crowd who clapped for the senior pacer.

Anderson, who picked up one wicket in the first innings, managed 3 more scalps in the second innings. Gus Atkinson had a debut to remember as after 7/45 in the first innings, he added 5/61 in the second do and finished with match figures of 12/106 in his first Test.

However, all attention was on James Anderson, as he finished with 704 Test wickets in 188 Tests, ending his career with the third most Test scalps ever behind Shane Warne (708) and Muttiah Muralitharan (800).

James Anderson led England off the field once West Indies was bowled out for 136 and England won by an innings and 114 runs. He waved goodbye for the final time in Test cricket and there were tears in his eyes as he bid farewell to Lord's crowd amidst applause.
