Sri Lanka enjoys a healthy lead due to skipper Dhananjaya de Silva's twin centuries.
Thanks to skipper Dhananjaya de Silva’s century and Kamindu Mendis’s ton in the first innings, Sri Lanka made 280 runs. In response, Sri Lanka pacers gave them a healthy lead of 92 runs as Bangladesh was shot out for 188 runs. Viswa Fernando took four wickets, while Kasun Rajitha and Lahiru Kumara took three wickets each.
In the second innings, Sri Lanka captain Dhananjaya de Silva made his second ton of the match, scoring 108 runs and Dimuth Karunaratne made 52 runs. Even Kamindu Mendis replicated his first innings brilliance and scored another fifty. The duo added more than 100 runs for the seventh wicket in the second innings.
However, in their desperation to break the partnership, Bangladesh bowlers tried everything. Pacer Khaled Ahmed thought of a novel idea and tried to run out Kamindu Mendis at the bowling end.
He saw Mendis leaving the crease early and tried to backhand flick the ball on the stumps in his bowling action. However, Ahmed’s aim was faulty and he missed the stumps, as Mendis put his bat back in the crease.
